Matillija Poppy

A matillija poppy from my garden and sage leaves and flowers are printed on this 9” x 12” eco-print on watercolor paper. The alum mordant turns the white poppy leaf yellow, and its yellow center a greenish blue. The purple sage leaves and flowers turn a teal color from the printing process. Notice the detail in the center of the poppy, which was created by steaming the image during printing and placing it under strong pressure. A post-printing vinegar wash enhances the colors that appeal. The image is enclosed in a black mat with a bronze metal frame. The framed piece measures 11” x 14”. This piece is currently on display and for sale at the Wilding Museum of Art and Nature.
